Reconnect
Stream connectivity and barrier assessment. Transfer habitat assessment methods, not non-native trout stocking. Reconnection can spread invasive species and needs screening.
KVI-12 · Rivers & springs
Screen diversions, culverts and other barriers for ecological effects before proposing reconnection or flow work.

UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE
Culverts, diversions and other structures may interrupt movement or change flow, but their local importance has not been established by the current source set. Reconnection may also spread introduced species, so barrier removal cannot be assumed to benefit native fish.
This opportunity begins with checking whether the suspected problem is present and significant at a named site. A field baseline, the relevant technical partners and local priorities would determine whether CCK should develop it further.
Flow, water quality and habitat connections need to be understood together.
Water users and land managers hold knowledge essential to a workable project.
A single visit cannot describe a river or spring through its annual cycle.
PROPOSED APPROACH
Screen diversions, culverts and other barriers for ecological effects before proposing reconnection or flow work.
Inventory structures, seasonal flows, native fish distribution and introduced-species risks with fisheries specialists.
Compare options for one confirmed problem structure with its owner and technical authorities.
Specify fish-passage and flow indicators before any authorised work is considered.
Inventory structures, seasonal flows, native fish distribution and introduced-species risks with fisheries specialists. Keep methods, dates, source records and unresolved questions together.
Compare options for one confirmed problem structure with its owner and technical authorities. Identify responsibilities, permissions, costs and continuing care before proceeding.
Specify fish-passage and flow indicators before any authorised work is considered. State what would count as success, failure or a reason to change course.
