Create low-impact lake monitoring and source-prevention programmes suited to remote, sensitive sites.

UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE
Pollutants including microplastics and metals have been reported at Nundkol. Remote lakes require careful interpretation of sources and low-impact methods; one lake's findings do not establish the condition of all high-altitude water bodies.
The first phase would turn this broad issue into a bounded site investigation. Current condition, the cause of change and an accountable local partnership would guide whether an intervention is appropriate.
Mountain vegetation, soils and water bodies require care suited to their condition and season.
Pastoralists, residents and visitors need a place in decisions about landscape use.
Repeat observations help distinguish lasting recovery from seasonal appearance.
PROPOSED APPROACH
Create low-impact lake monitoring and source-prevention programmes suited to remote, sensitive sites.
Select a lake with appropriate partners and map camps, inflows and likely pollution routes.
Pair specialist sampling with a feasible source-prevention agreement among guides and site users.
Repeat a limited, quality-controlled set of water and shore-condition observations.
Select a lake with appropriate partners and map camps, inflows and likely pollution routes. Keep methods, dates, source records and unresolved questions together.
Pair specialist sampling with a feasible source-prevention agreement among guides and site users. Identify responsibilities, permissions, costs and continuing care before proceeding.
Repeat a limited, quality-controlled set of water and shore-condition observations. State what would count as success, failure or a reason to change course.

Visitor and guide participation in recyclable waste transport. Requires safe sorting, a receiving recycler and workable logistics; do not transfer hazardous waste to visitors.
