Millennium Seed Bank
Seed collection, provenance records, storage and restoration research. Species biology, access and benefit-sharing and local collecting permissions determine applicability.
KVI-21 · Forests & native plants
Assess local restoration demand and provenance gaps before developing a native propagation partnership.

UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE
Restoration can fail when appropriate native seed and plants are unavailable or their origin is unclear. This is a supply question to investigate locally; the existing source set does not demonstrate a Valley-wide nursery shortage.
This opportunity begins with checking whether the suspected problem is present and significant at a named site. A field baseline, the relevant technical partners and local priorities would determine whether CCK should develop it further.
Species composition, regeneration and habitat structure matter alongside vegetation cover.
The reference ecosystem and the cause of damage should guide the choice of intervention.
Plant and habitat recovery can require continuing attention beyond an initial activity.
PROPOSED APPROACH
Assess local restoration demand and provenance gaps before developing a native propagation partnership.
Match actual restoration demand with nursery capacity, species biology and documented seed origin.
Develop a propagation trial with a competent nursery or botanical institution for a small agreed species set.
Record provenance, germination, plant quality and establishment after planting.
Match actual restoration demand with nursery capacity, species biology and documented seed origin. Keep methods, dates, source records and unresolved questions together.
Develop a propagation trial with a competent nursery or botanical institution for a small agreed species set. Identify responsibilities, permissions, costs and continuing care before proceeding.
Record provenance, germination, plant quality and establishment after planting. State what would count as success, failure or a reason to change course.
