FairWild Standard overview, version 3.0
Resource assessment, sustainable wild collection, collector rights and traceability. Certification is a separate process; no harvest quota or product approval established for Kashmir.
KVI-20 · Forests & native plants
Identify vulnerable species and collection practices, then explore collector-led resource assessment and cultivation options.

UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE
Research on medicinal-plant collection in Kashmir identifies a basis for investigating extraction pressure. Species differ in vulnerability and response to harvesting; a project must understand the resource and collectors' livelihoods before proposing collection limits or cultivation.
The first phase would turn this broad issue into a bounded site investigation. Current condition, the cause of change and an accountable local partnership would guide whether an intervention is appropriate.
Species composition, regeneration and habitat structure matter alongside vegetation cover.
The reference ecosystem and the cause of damage should guide the choice of intervention.
Plant and habitat recovery can require continuing attention beyond an initial activity.
PROPOSED APPROACH
Identify vulnerable species and collection practices, then explore collector-led resource assessment and cultivation options.
Verify target species, collection practices, trade routes and resource condition with collectors and botanists.
Explore a collector-led stewardship or cultivation trial with clear consent and appropriate permissions.
Follow population recruitment, harvest practice and the livelihood consequences of the trial.
Verify target species, collection practices, trade routes and resource condition with collectors and botanists. Keep methods, dates, source records and unresolved questions together.
Explore a collector-led stewardship or cultivation trial with clear consent and appropriate permissions. Identify responsibilities, permissions, costs and continuing care before proceeding.
Follow population recruitment, harvest practice and the livelihood consequences of the trial. State what would count as success, failure or a reason to change course.

These references offer methods to assess locally. They do not establish what will work at a selected Kashmir site.

Seed collection, provenance records, storage and restoration research. Species biology, access and benefit-sharing and local collecting permissions determine applicability.
