Tree Planting in Schools
Site-specific school habitats, shade and ongoing care. Local species, water, safeguarding and maintenance matter more than a copied planting density.
KVI-45 · Towns & everyday places
Explore appropriate habitat care in schools, parks, graveyards and campuses with their users and custodians.

UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE
Parks, campuses, schools and graveyards can retain habitat within working landscapes. Local orchard-and-graveyard research suggests these places deserve attention, but their ecological value and appropriate management must be assessed with the people who use and care for them.
The first phase would turn this broad issue into a bounded site investigation. Current condition, the cause of change and an accountable local partnership would guide whether an intervention is appropriate.
Trees, soil, water and small habitat patches can be considered within everyday public spaces.
Access, cultural meaning and routine maintenance should shape the design.
A named custodian and a realistic care arrangement give a small project a chance to last.
PROPOSED APPROACH
Explore appropriate habitat care in schools, parks, graveyards and campuses with their users and custodians.
Survey existing habitat and seasonal use and discuss everyday access and cultural priorities with custodians.
Agree a small habitat-care trial, such as retaining suitable cover or improving safe flowering resources.
Repeat habitat and wildlife observations and review whether care remains practical for users.
Survey existing habitat and seasonal use and discuss everyday access and cultural priorities with custodians. Keep methods, dates, source records and unresolved questions together.
Agree a small habitat-care trial, such as retaining suitable cover or improving safe flowering resources. Identify responsibilities, permissions, costs and continuing care before proceeding.
Repeat habitat and wildlife observations and review whether care remains practical for users. State what would count as success, failure or a reason to change course.
